Katy Perry – Firework

This song is speaking so much to my current existence (see this post as I don’t feel like anyone sees the spark, the bright lights or really, my worth. I used to rely on ‘Don’t Make Me Over’ to get through the hard times, but this is my new ‘no one cares about me’ song.

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
Drifting through the wind, wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards, one blow from caving in?

Do you ever feel already buried deep?
Six feet under screams but no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there’s still a chance for you
‘Cause there’s a spark in you?

Bitter Party of 1: Quincy Jones

Tags: , ,

In a recent interview, Quincy Jones, revealed that he is a pressed hater:

Us: Kanye West is similar to you in that he’s the producer everybody wants to work with in the last decade…
QJ: How man? No way. Did he write for a symphony orchestra? Does he write for a jazz orchestra? Come on, man. He’s just a rapper. There’s no comparison. I’m not putting him down or making a judgement or anything, but we come from two different sides of the planet. I spent 28 years learning my first skill. I don’t rap. It’s not the same thing. A producer has to have some sort of skills that enable him to be a producer. It’s totally different to know what to do with 16 woodwinds you know from piccolos down to bass clarinet. It’s a whole different mindset. No comparison. None.

Us: What do you think of him?
QJ: I don’t think about him much. He’s a great rapper, but there are a lot of good rappers. I just did The View with Ludacris, who’s one of my favorites. He’s a beautiful human being and college educated. I joke with him and say, ‘How did ‘Move Bitch Get Out The Way’ come out of you?’ But I was raised around the Mafia when I was a kid in Chicago in the 30s. Chicago’s rough. I’m from the streets, I know what’s up! (source)

QJ, are you the new Lil Kim, unable to step off of the thrown? Get over yourself and accept that times have changed, and no one does this as you do. Kanye is a great producer.

Handicapable Women & Chivalry

Posted: November 30, 2010 in Everything

The caption of the photo says to give up your seat for the elderly and handicapped.

Normally, the women at my job complain about no one standing up for them on the subway. Should I ask of they’re either handicapped or elderly?

Or perhaps if their ‘female condition’ should be accommodated as well? Oh wait, we left those days behind.

I firmly believe in equal rights and gender equality, and that’s something my mother emphasized. She also told me you can’t have your cake and eat it too.

So, to the women who want men to give up their seats, what other ‘dated’ chivalrous things should make a comeback?

Also, I think that if more men and women switched up these ingrained gender roles and societal expectations, equality would be achieved. We are all equals, and let’s treat each other that way.

Mix vintage charm with modern snark, and you have a more witty/cultural relic version of

Dear White America,

Get over it. Now. Kanye West didn’t steal Taylor Swift’s innocence, he made you endear her more. And there’s nothing you love more than a pretty, blonde white girl in distress to rescue. It makes you feel important, and I get that. But stop it.

The video above is of Kanye being booed at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, an event geared towards children. Is it appropriate to boo someone? Normally, yes, but can you explain in a mature way to your child or the children around why you are booing and why that action is an appropriate response? It’s not an appropriate response given the context of the situation.

Could you have shouted ‘Taylor, Taylor’? Yes, but it’s still relatively immature although better than booing. Or perhaps teach the children that the response to a bully (Kanye) is to turn the other cheek and not commit the same indecency. Just a thought.

So I think it really boils down to White America needing to get over itself and just let Kanye live. Sure he’s an asshole, he even toasts to it; but now, so are you. You Sirs, are assholes. Now boo yourselves. Let’s just move on, and boo people who actually make the world a worse place, not those who hurt the fragile ego of an ungrateful teenage girl…yes, TSwfit is ungrafeful. She didn’t even say ‘thank you’ to Beyonce for later letting her have her moment redone.

Zac Posen x Martha Stewart

Zac Posen tweeted his pants when he shelled out $3500 for a six week internship with the domestic goddess at a charity gala: “I’m so happy that I won a 6 week internship with Martha Stewart. Whatever will I learn??”

Zac Posen to Intern with Martha Stewart: Its a Good Thing

I support this kind of collaboration even if only it makes for good PR/charity. Two people who are awesome at what they do learning from each other, much like how Kanye interned with LV (I think it was them…).
